Who We Are

The Happy Place Concept School is a year-round, outdoor school offering a Nature Tots program for ages 2-3 and Forest Kindergarten for ages 4-6.  We preserve the magic and wonder of early childhood by nurturing the Child/Nature connection.  A child in Nature is free to explore, learn, play, create, grow and develop in a playful and stimulating way.

A leaf becomes a crown for the Royal King or Queen, a stick becomes a sword to slay a dragon, and everyone watches together in amazement as a caterpillar spins a chrysalis and tinder becomes flame.

This interactive learning isn’t memorized to be repeated on a test and then forgotten, it becomes the fabric of a sacred tapestry of experiences that inform one’s life forever.

Moments of learning and growing at The Happy Place are created through the magic of free play, exploring Nature with all one’s senses, story-telling, games, personal and collective art projects, handcraft such as sewing, felting, whittling, building, etc, music, creative movement, yoga, meditation, dance, qigong, child-planned parties, cooking, gardening, mindful communication, and many other activities inspired by the Children, Nature and the Muses of the Moment.  We create a safe space to try new things and best of all… let imaginations run wild!

There is growing research and science on the positive effects of Nature Connection on mood, development, focus, health, and creativity, but for the children and teachers, it is simply and wonderfully our Happy Place.

The Happy Place Concept School also has plans to grow and offer all grades of elementary, middle, and high school. For all grades, the magic, discovery, art, and playfulness of early childhood will always be woven throughout our curriculum because preserving that wonderment throughout one’s life ensures a love of learning, curiosity, and happiness that will never fade even when they are parents and grandparents themselves.

We believe in the incredible power of choice and we aim to equip children with the ability to make choices that are true and unique to them. To empower children to thrive in unlimited possibility, rather than settle for less or a status quo and to encompass and embrace all the modalities of life and be capable for anything they choose to do.

We believe in the magic of discovery, the magic of learning, the magic of evolving, the magic of being able to go to any kind of school, any kind of university, any kind of learning or job you choose fully equipped to handle any standards.

To achieve this we are creating a syllabus grade by grade that keeps all the beauty of the teaching we give in early childhood education and then enhances upon it with high-level academics, emotional intelligence, critical thinking skills, physical wellbeing, and a connection to one’s self and their environment.

We are creating a curriculum that marries the best of the past, the present, and the future and is based on the wisdom of Nature.  Nature, in her infinite wisdom, has given humans a capacity that we are just brushing the surface of, what could happen if a school taught children what they are truly capable of?  What could happen if a school taught what it truly meant to be human and the power, joy, potential, and responsibility that came with that? What could happen if a school taught children how to be themselves and be happy?  This is our true mission, to develop a curriculum based on these questions with the greatest goal of happiness and evolution for our future generation. This is our challenge, this is our passion and we hope that when we are ready you will choose to join us in exploring an education that lives in the land of the limitless.

Our Values

Happiness

We teach children a strong sense of empowerment, connection to oneself and their environment, unlimited possibility, the tools to be happy under any circumstance and to live in the magic of every moment.

Magic

We play in all realms, Big and Small, Imaginative and Tangible, Spiritual and Physical and prove to ourselves everyday that there is nothing we cannot do or cannot be!! We learn not in a flat, dull, repetitive way but in keeping alive the wonderment of learning and discovery.

Interconnected Approach

The defining feature of our concept as a nature based education is that children are provided with opportunities to build an on-going relationship with the land, to a trusted educator, to one another, and to themselves. To learn to feel nature but also to understand the functioning of nature through the sciences. We can begin to see ourselves not separate from Nature, but as much a part of Nature as the trees and the birds are.  We learn to trust the wisdom of nature, to trust what is rather than an idea of how things should be. We learn that understanding things in a scientific way is only one part of the equation and that feeling is another equally important part of the equation. We learn that who we are, how things work, how nature works is the ultimate wisdom. We become One With, we Belong and we are Responsible Stewards of that which we Love and is a part of us. We also learn to be responsible stewards of our happiness and give ourselves as many choices as possible, this way we are set free to fly.

“Look deep into Nature, then you will understand everything better.”
